new projects Production Title: IF I WAS YOUR GIRL
Production Date: February 2012 in Chicago, IL
Synopsis: an intense pressure cooker drama centered on the chaotic affair between two interrelated lesbian couples.
Ten years ago I set out on a journey to create a film that exposed the tumultuous and violent behaviors that can exist within lesbian relationships. While filming the 75 minute work-in-progress back in 2001, I created this behind the scenes commentary featuring myself and the lead cast: Markietha Singleton as "Stacia", Gisla Stringer as "Rhonda", Erica Bond-Dillard as "Toi" and Dana Guest as "Lynn". The film's work-in-progress version was intentionally mis-spelled and titled IF I WUZ YO GYRL.
The work-in-progress version was shot using a Digital 8 camcorder with cinematic filters. From 2001 to 2003, the film was actually shot three different times with different story lines; however the most favored of the three was the 2nd version which is the work-in-progress. It was shot in seven consecutive days with three women as crew in the Summer of 2001 on a $50 budget. It has appeared in the 2003 Black Harvest Film Festival, the 2004 Atlanta Black Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and in 2006 was a featured presentation at the National Museum of Women In The Arts in Washington, DC. Since then, the script has been re-written and renamed from SHE'S A MEAN MISTREATER to the accurate spelling IF I WAS YOUR GIRL.

Production Title: GRANNY BALLERS
Production Date: June 2012 in LaGrange, GA
Synopsis: An exciting and humorous tale about the friendship between a group of elderly women who enter a basketball tournament in order to win the grand prize money to help a fellow elderly friend in need.
I wrote the screen play version of Granny Ballers back in 2001. Desperate to gain an audience for this wonderful piece, I produced it as a stage play in 2003 and presented it during women's history month (March 2003) at Malcom X College in Chicago, IL. After a successful run of the stage play, I still wanted to make the film version and hence produced a spec trailer to pitch the idea to potential investors. In 2004 I reached out to casting director Jacquelyn Conard to find elderly women who ranged in ages 65 to 90 to help me make the spec version of GRANNY BALLERS. This video presentation is a visual of my efforts.
In August 2011, I was able to secure $11,000 to shoot the feature version and the film was renamed to I AM PEARL JAMES. However, as the writer, producer and director I realized that my ambitious endeavors to make this film, clouded my judgment in evaluating realistically the time and money needed to make a film of this caliber. The version that was shot was certainly not indicative of the potential this film could be. Hence, I renamed it back to its original title (GRANNY BALLERS) and the plan is to raise the right money to reshoot and allot the right amount of time needed.
